When it comes to college sports in Korea, the rivalry between Yonsei University and Korea University is legendary. I had the chance to witness the intensity of these matches firsthand and let me tell you, they did not disappoint.
Before the games even began, the Yonsei Student Association made sure the crowd was ready to go. Those who showed up early were greeted with gifts, including snacks, a cap, noise-makers, a fan to help with the heat, and drinks, among other things. It was a thoughtful gesture that made the whole experience even more exciting and gave us all the energy we needed for the big match ahead—whether it was baseball or soccer.
The baseball game took place in Jamsil, a massive stadium that echoed with cheers and chants from the moment the game started. The energy was contagious, and it was impossible not to get swept up in the excitement. But the real action was in the soccer match.
Held about an hour away from the Sinchon area, this game had a twist I wasn’t expecting. For most of the match, Yonsei University seemed like the clear winner. The team was dominating, and the energy in the stands was wild. But with just 20 minutes left, Korea University managed to score a surprise goal, tying the game. The atmosphere was tense as both teams fought for the win. And just when it seemed like the game would end in a draw, Yonsei pulled through, scoring again just three minutes before the final whistle. We won! The crowd went wild, and it felt like the whole stadium was shaking with excitement. As a Yonsei student, the shared excitement made the victory even sweeter.

What truly set this experience apart was the non-stop energy. There was never a quiet moment, thanks to the dedicated cheerleaders and dance teams who kept the crowd hyped throughout both games. The constant chanting, clapping, and dancing were infectious and created an experience that went beyond just watching a game—it was a full-blown celebration of school pride.
Though I’ve attended college games before, the atmosphere at these Yonsei vs. Korea University events was something special. The level of excitement, energy, and support was unlike anything I’d experienced before. It’s an event you’ll feel in your bones, long after the final whistle blows.
